FBLA National CompetitionPosted on: Friday, October 01, 2010Chris Whitmire, 2010 graduate from Grafton High School, entered the Accounting I competition for the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter at Grafton High and placed 1st in the TNCC region, 1st in the State of Virginia and in the top 10% in the Nation. He received this honor at the FBLA National Competition held in July 2010 in Nashville, TN. |
Spirit flows to Homecoming WeekendPosted on: Friday, October 01, 2010Students at Tabb High School celebrate Homecoming with a week of spirit activities leading up to the weekend game and dance. Dressing up for nerd day, gender-bender day and big orange day helped increase spirit while the students decorated their class hallways for the Friday Pep Rally competition. The Junior Class won the hall competition with their rendition of Atlantis and the Sophomore Class followed in second place with their Savanna wall. |

They have raised over $800 in September alone and will continue to raise money until the end of October. Staff members will be walking in the Heart Walk on October 9 at Newport News City Park. |
Yorktown Goes to FrancePosted on: Friday, October 01, 2010A delegation of 13 York County citizens descended on the small Mediterranean village of Port-Vendres in southeastern France Sept. 14-19. The occasion marked the 20th anniversary of Yorktown and Port-Vendres' sister city relationship. The "twinning" is chartered by Sister Cities International. The group was welcomed as family with each member staying in a local home. They were treated to a series of receptions by the mayors of Port-Vend res and its neighboring village, Collioure. The agenda also included visits to local vineyards and historic sites, and a visit to the middle school, where Christine Hudson, French teacher at Tabb High School, worked with French counterparts to establish e-mail exchanges between our students and those of Port-Vendres. TES Wins Jump Rope for Heart Coordinator of the Year 2010Posted on: Thursday, September 23, 2010Bette Seymore, Physical Education teacher for Tabb Elementary School (TES), was recognized by the Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance for promoting heart health. She has been selected as the Jump Rope for Hear Coordinator of the Year for 2010. Mrs. Seymore has sponsored jump rope clubs for the past ten years. In the last eight of those years, she has also sponsored the TES Jump Rope for Heart Demonstration Team. This TES team, under her guidance, travels to area schools to promote jump rope as an excellent heart healthy activity. |
YMS Recognized as an IB World SchoolPosted on: Thursday, September 23, 2010Yorktown Middle School (YMS) has been officially awarded the prestigious title of IB World School by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). Currently in its third year of operating as a Middle Years Programme (MYP), YMS is recognized for its commitment to the IB Mission of developing inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Over the past two years, the MYP faculty has developed an in-depth course of study that infuses the York County School Division curriculum with interdisciplinary connections and global mindedness. The journey to implement the MYP also featured a two-day evaluation by representatives of IBO. Designation as an IB World School allows Yorktown Middle School to continue to offer a world-class education to the entire Falcon Family. They read many Curious George books which led to class discussions on expectations, rules and curiosity! On Friday, the first grade teachers dressed like the "Man in the Yellow Hat" to finish out the week. |
