Tabb Principal, Angela Seiders, YEA and Faculty member Betty Burdick and Tabb students delivered the banner and goodies on Friday, September 10th, in remembrance of the 9-11 tragedy. |

This year is the second year that General Dynamics has made a donation of school supplies to GBES. |
Old Oak Outdoor Learning Center DedicationPosted on: Thursday, September 16, 2010For more than 40 years, Dare Elementary School children, parents and teachers have gathered, played and learned under the branches of the enormous live oak tree that graces the entry to the school. This tree, loved by many, was the inspiration for the creation of the Old Oak Outdoor Learning Center. In 2009, Kathryn Callaway, a second grade teacher and Earth Kids Leader at Dare, applied for and received a Lowes' Outdoor Education Grant. With help from volunteers, Earth Kids’, Dare PTA and staff members, the Old Oak Outdoor Learning Center has become a reality complete with benches, picnic tables, planters, bird feeders, bird bath and a birdhouse. DES held a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony on September 9. Principal Dick Carter cut the ribbon. |

WMES Teachers Bring Back Children's LiteraturePosted on: Friday, September 10, 2010Waller Mill Elementary School Instructional Trainers, Robyn O'Neal and Michelle Ballin, spent a portion of their summer attending Shenandoah University's 25th Annual Children's Literature Conference from June 28 to July 2. They returned to school with wonderful literature from the conference to share with the Waller Mill staff. O'Neal and Ballin provided teachers with a list of area libraries that own copies of the literature that was shared and sources for using pictures books in the classroom. |

York River AcademyPosted on: Friday, September 10, 2010York River Academy officially opened their new building on the campus of Yorktown Middle School with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 1. York River Academy was previously located in trailers on the York High campus, and, thanks to a partnership with the Boys & Girls Club, the new facility will provide a permanent home for the division’s only charter high school. |
