The club collected almost 400 stuffed animals to send. Energizing the stuffed animal drive was a friendly competition between classes to see which could collect the most stuffed toys. The seventh period English class taught by Elizabeth Milne won. |

Students obtained pledges from community members in anticipation of taking a special test at school. Pledges were collected based on the number of test questions they answered correctly. |

IPOP Accepting ApplicationsPosted on: Thursday, March 25, 2010York County School Division (YCSD) is accepting applications for the Integrated Preschool Outreach Program (IPOP) for the 2010 academic year. IPOP is a language-based preschool environment. The program is designed to serve students who are typically developing and those with special needs. The curriculum places emphasis on school readiness and socialization skills. “Estuaries to Oceans” Field TripPosted on: Thursday, March 25, 2010Master gardeners from Virginia Cooperative Extension of York County (VCE-York County) will be hosting an outdoor hands-on "Estuaries to Oceans" field trip on March 29 for the entire fifth grade at Seaford Elementary School (SES). This is the third time VCE-York County has offered this science-based field trip to a York County School. The field trip takes place across three properties including and adjacent to SES. Student classes are split up and each group follows a different schedule consisting of the same six activities. Each activity is hosted by two to four educators and/or staffers, and the school provides parent chaperons who rotate with each group. At each station students do the featured activity and answer questions in their field trip journals. |
Shamrocks for Tabb TigersPosted on: Thursday, March 25, 2010Tabb High School DECA supported the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Shamrock sale and championed the "Send Chris to Camp" campaign by raising over $200 during the lunch block sales of shamrocks. Students and faculty supported the sale and had their names placed on shamrocks pasted along the media center front windows. To encourage participation in the event, a competition was held between the classes; the senior class purchased the most shamrocks. |
History Club Wins Trivia BowlPosted on: Thursday, March 25, 2010Five members of the African American History Club served as the team representing Grafton High School in the 2010 Langley African American Heritage Council's African American History Trivia Bowl, held at York High School. Upon winning this year, Grafton High School retains possession of the first place trophy and is the only school in the York County School Division to be the winner of the Bowl since its origination in 2006. Teacher sponsor, Antoinette Burnett served as the team coach and Vice Principal, Craig Reed was in attendance to support the team. |
Essay Writer Wins PTA ContestPosted on: Thursday, March 25, 2010Tabb High School student, Kirk Smith has taken first place in the annual Peninsula District of the Virginia Parent Teachers Association essay writing event. The theme of this years 750 word minimum essay was "Strong Citizens-Strong Communities". Kirk will be recognized for his accomplishment and receive his award during the Peninsula District PTA's annual dinner meeting on April 15. |
